Well the year is coming to a close and that must mean its time to check up on how I did on my goals for 2009.

1.  Read through the Bible using a daily reading plan. – On target to finish on schedule on December 31.  While I had read through the Bible a number of times before, this is the first time I did it with one of the daily reading plans through a year.  I have to say it was great and it will most likely continue next year and into the indefinite future.  I am planning to make a change in translation though.  This year I used ESV, but I plan to do TNIV next year.

2.  Read through the Greek New Testament. – Also on target to finish on schedule on December 31.  I plan to continue this as well.  About July I thought about not doing the English reading of the NT and just doing my Greek NT reading, but I decided against it.  I still enjoy reading the English so I will continue both in the next year.  Hopefully, my Hebrew will be good enough this time next year to add the Hebrew OT to my goals for 2011, but we will have to wait and see.

3.  Translate John. – Finished!  This was great.  In the past I had only translated through letters (Philippians, Ephesians, Colossians and 1 Peter) so it was fun to get into John.  However, I am not done with the Fourth Gospel so stay tuned for more to come.

4.  Finish my old series in the blog. – Partially finished.  I did not get to Paul, Judaism, and the Gentiles. I could make the excuse that I started to get a bunch of review books from publishers and never went back to finish PJG, but I should have made it a priority.  I still have eleven day left in the year, maybe it will happen.

5.  Read some Rudolf Bultmann and Karl Barth. – Finished!  Not a lot, but I read sections of Barth’s Roman’s commentary and section of Bultmann’s NT Theology.  I will be reading a significant amount more of Barth next semester as a chunk of CD is required for my Christology course.

So there you go, pretty good I say.  All but half of one goal, but that’s not too shabby, right?
