I think a lot of blogs get bogged down with just posting quotes that the author finds interesting or directing readers to other blogger’s posts. Sometimes bloggers have more posts telling their readers to go here or there in the blogesphere than their own content and ideas. I will try to keep that to an absolute minimum here, but I found a recent post from Michael Patton at Parchment and Pen to be quite thought provoking. Patton forms the post around the question “Why do people leave Christianity?” He does an excellent job explaining why the misunderstandings of Christianity eventually lead people to abandon the faith. However, when I finished reading his post I could not help but wonder if the list he provided for the ways people misconstrue the meaning and purpose of Jesus can also be used to examine ourselves and others concerning the desire for deeper discipleship. It seems to me the misinterpretations of who God and Jesus are that Michael lists are also reasons why people do not want to venture to greater depths in their understanding of God and His saving acts. Read his post here and see what you think.
